Have you run out of ideas for scout meetings? Let us help! The Buffalo Grove Park District has many offerings for Scouts of all ages.  Whether you are a new Tiger Cub den leader or an experienced Junior Girl Scout mom, we have a program to suit your group’s schedule, interests and budget.

Basic Water Rescue (Will help provide Water Safety Badge)
This class will provide individuals with information and skills necessary to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. Participants will learn how to prepare and protect themselves and assist others. There is an in-water skills session so all participants need to be prepared to enter the water (chest deep). The pool staff will conduct this program and there is a fee. To schedule, please call Rick Missing at (847) 850-2107.

Scout Programs at the Raupp Museum


The following programs are all available at the Raupp Museum.  To schedule a program, please contact Debbie Fandrei, the museum coordinator at (847) 459-2318.

Daisy Girl Scouts

  • Zinnia Petal (Sharing)
    Your Troop will visit a painting exhibit, try an exciting art scavenger hunt, and do an art project that teaches them the advantage of sharing resources. Please note: This program is only available in December.
    Fee: $1 per Scout

  • Sunflower Petal (Friendly & Helpful)
    Scouts tour the museum and try hands-on activities as they learn how girls have been friendly and helpful through history, then discuss how they can be friendly and helpful today.
    Fee: Free

  • Money Counts Leaf
    Girls will learn money skills the fun way as they go shopping the way that farmers did 100 years ago. First, they’ll earn money, then make a shopping
    list, and finally spend their money at the General Store.
    Fee: Free

Brownie Girl Scouts

  • Bugs
    Learn all about bugs in Buffalo Grove. Girls will make a bug box, go on a bug-finding walk, and create their own cool bug art. Please note: Since this is an outdoor program, it will only be available April thru June.
    Fee: $2 per Scout

  • Painting
    Your Troop will explore their creative side as they get inspired by an art exhibit, then try painting a still life, painting a mood, and painting without brushes.
    Please note: This program is only available in December.
    Fee: $3 per Scout

  • Celebrating Community
    Learn what makes Buffalo Grove special! Girls will learn about local landmarks, discover the symbols in the town flag and the U.S. flag, and make a felt flag to take home.
    Fee: $1 per Scout

  • Letterboxing
    Learn all about letterboxing. Girls will discover what letterboxing is, practice solving clues, make a stamp for their own letterbox, and go on a sample letterbox hunt.
    Fee: $5 per Scout

  • Inventor
    Girls practice problem solving as they learn about old-fashioned inventions, identify new problems, and brainstorm creative ways to solve them.
    Fee: $3 per Scout

  • Flowers
    Pretty and practical! Girls will learn all about the science and stories of flowers, as they make a botany notebook, go on a flower walk, dye flowers, discover the code of the flowers, and make felt flowers to take home.
    Fee: $5 per Scout

For Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts

  • Laura Ingalls Wilder Patch
    This exciting program lets girls learn about life on a covered wagon, bake bread from scratch, and hand-sew their own apron while enjoying one of the
    all-time classics of children’s literature. Please note: This program is available from January thru May only.
    Fee: $10 per Scout and the badge is included

Junior Girl Scouts

  • Detective
    This patch combines science and history as Scouts work to solve a murder mystery, which occurred over 100 years ago. Participants will learn about fingerprints, examine bullets and extract DNA from a strawberry.
    Fee: $3 per Scout

  • Drawing
    Your Troop will explore their creative side as they get inspired by an art exhibit, then try drawing with different materials, adding shading, playing with perspective and making a portfolio to hold their art. Please note: This program is only available in December.
    Fee: $4 per Scout

  • Product Designer - January - April 2013
    Why is the pop-up toaster cool? Girls will find out as they learn what makes some products change history. Then they put their ideas and observations to work, analyzing ways to make an everyday product even better.
    Fee: $3 per Scout

  • Geocacher
    Take your troop on a treasure hunt! Girls will learn what geocaching is, how to work a GPS and how to prepare for a trip. Then they will try geocaching
    on the Museum’s grounds and make a trade item to take home.
    Fee: $4 per Scout

Cub Scouts

Belt Loop programs can be done by Scouts at any level (Tiger Cub - Webelo).  They are designed to introduce boys to a subject in a fun and educational manner.

  • Map & Compass Belt Loop
    Scouts will learn basic compass skills, make a map of their route to school, color their own compass rose, and test their new knowledge by following an on site-treasure map.
    Fee: $1 per Scout

  • Marbles Belt Loop
    This exciting program lets boys play a game that their grandfathers enjoyed too. They will learn how to shoot marbles, learn the rules of marbles, spend time playing the game, and practicing their skills. Each boy will leave with a bag of marbles.
    Fee: $5 per Scout

  • Geography Belt Loop
    Scouts will cover the world as they draw a local map, learn about regional landforms, locate a destination using longitude and latitude, and identify all of the important information on a globe.
    Fee: Free

  • Art Belt Loop
    Scouts will learn all about art as they look at paintings, experiment with primary colors, and create a shape collage.
    Fee: $1 per Scout

Tiger Cub Scouts

  • Making My Family Special
    Tthe Raupp Museum has a special program
    where Tiger Cubs visit the museum, do a scavenger hunt and make a small scrapbook. At the end of the program, each Scout will have completed 2 requirements of the Making My Family Special Achievement.
    Fee: $2 per Scout

Bear Cub Scouts

  • American Indian Life (Elective)
    Scouts will learn what life was like for the Potawatomi over 175 years ago. Participants will be able to touch reproduction artifacts, feel deer hide, try a Potawatomi game, and make a model of a wigwam.
    Fee: $1 per Scout

  • The Past Is Exciting & Important (Achievement)
    What was life like in Buffalo Grove 25 years ago? Visit the Raupp Museum to find out! For this special program Bear Cub Scouts will look at newspapers
    from 25 years ago, see a short slide show and learn about the history of Buffalo Grove.
    Fee: Free

Bear Scouts

Webelos

  • Scholar Activity Badge
    Learn all about what it was like to go to school 100 years ago.  See pictures of one-room schoolhouses from Buffalo Grove and learn how schools have changed.
    Fee: Free

  • Forester Activity Badge
    Learn all about the forest trees and plants of Illinois. Scouts will learn to identify different forest trees and plants, discover why they are useful to people and animals, and have fun with a tree ring game.
    Fee: $2 per Scout

  • CSI 1899 Forensic Science Program
    This program combines science and history as Scouts work to solve a murder mystery which occurred over 100 years ago. Participants will learn about fingerprints, examine bullets, and even extract DNA from a strawberry.
    Fee: $3 per Scout

Boy Scouts

  • Archaeology
    Learn about what archaeology is, what and where sites are located, local archaeology and artifacts, and how people lived thousands of years ago. Scouts will also participate in a mock dig and make a reproduction arrowhead to take home.
    Fee: $5 per Scout

  • Indian Lore
    Scouts will learn about the local Native Americans who lived in this area for thousands of years. They will also learn about customs and ways of life before the coming of European settlers and try a Native American craft.
    Fee: $5 per Scout

  • Forestry
    Scouts will learn all about trees, including tree identification, forest management, native trees, and invasive species. They will also make a field notebook to take home.
    Fee: $5 per Scout

  • Nature
    Scouts will learn how to identify local birds, mammals, insects, plants and rocks. They will also learn about the importance of plants and animals, and how their interaction is crucial to survival.
    Fee: Free

  • Geocaching
    Scouts will learn what geocaching is, how to work a GPS, how to locate a geocache, and the ethics of geocaching.
    Fee: $9 per Scout and a geocoin is included
